Le Lezard aux Plumes d’or by Joan Miro
(b. 1893 -1983 Barcelona, Spain)
Le Lezard aux Plumes d’or, 1970
Lithograph on Rives vellum with watermark
13 1/4” x 38 1/2”
This piece was originally from the collection of Louis Broder, the art publisher. He commissioned and collaborated on many important works during the 20th century, however his collaborations with Miro through the world famous Mourlot lithographic atelier in Paris created only four historically significant and highly desirable suites of color lithographs in 1970 & 1971. Only a few were sold in galleries in the 1970’s. The estate held the remaining unsold pieces for 35 years after Broder’s death. Park West Gallery acquired the entire collection in 2006; Playa Gallery acquired Migratory Bird III in 2008.
